This assessment was completed in 2009 to provide an inventory of all previous transportation studies and recommendations, and assess whether the existing and planned transportation system can adequately address the current and future regional mobility needs of the region. This assessment reviews these previous studies from a regional standpoint in order to evaluate their ability to enhance regional mobility and connectivity, address and support future land use and development patterns, and promote multi-modal travel in the region.
The Coastal Regional Commission enters into an annual contract with the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) to act as a liaison and facilitator with local governments for certain GDOT programs. For fiscal year 2010, these programs include:
Scenic Byways: Provide initial field check and assist in developing applications, and support creating Corridor Management Plans.
Bicycle and Pedestrian Planning: Continue to administratively assist the organization formed to advance of the development of the Coastal Georgia Rail Trail; maintain open communication with the Coastal Georgia Greenway Board of Directors, complete walkability and bikeability assessments, and perform bicycle/pedestrian feasibility studies as requested.
Transportation Enhancement Support: Promote and distribute information on the TE program, document TE projects at different stages, and provide technical assistance to TE sponsors working on TE applications.
Safe Routes to School: Assist in promoting and coordinating with the newly created GDOT Safe Routes to School Resource Center, as well as provide any additional technical assistance to the Resource Center regional representative or local government as requested.
Historic Resource Support: Respond to Notice of Section 106 Review requests by providing additional information or comments.
Other transportation related services provided by the CRC include project management and grant writing.
